That’s kind of like the difference between Match. I also equate OKCupid as a site for people who are 5’s and below. For example, we actually know how our members feel about having more children, how they feel about potentially relocating from the Bay area, what their ideal timelines for marriage and parenthood could look like, etc. When looking for dates, some of our clients tend to really focus on the timelines they have in mind for these milestones in their own lives, and are only interested in pursuing matches whose personal forecasts align with theirs.
While I can see how that might make sense initially, it can actually work against you in the end. You can lose a lot of time looking for a man or woman who wants to share the same schedule you do; personal schedules can actually shift quite a bit as people get into relationships, learn what is important to their significant other, and realize what it might be like to be engaged, married, or even a parent with this particular person in their lives.

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content: Television and film have long had difficulty dramatizing work involving computers. How can we make typing at a keyboard narratively active? The traditional route has been anthropomorphization; the more computers were invested with human qualities, the more dramatically interesting—the reasoning went—they would be. The most recent season of television, though, has turned a corner: Silicon Valley is set in the present and follows the members of startup tech company who are developing a music app called Pied Paper.
The series follows the team as they prepare to present their product in eight weeks for TechCrunch Disrupt, a contest for underfunded startups. The team led by Richard Thomas Middleditch must [End Page 92] overcome numerous obstacles, including its own dysfunctional dynamic, to achieve victory at the competition in what proves to be quite a suspenseful scene.
Here, the computer is seen as a source of achievement and creativity as well as the road to the American Dream. Halt and Catch Fire only a handful of episodes have aired as of this writing has another agenda.

Many of the reviews for this show were after or during season 1, so i’m happy to say that the show is still amazing halfway through season 4. Like many other reviewers, I am a programmer myself so I have a great appreciation for the show’s technical content, even if it is sometimes unrealistic it is a comedy first and foremost, after all. While there is a variety of computer science related topics discussed on this show, you do not need a technical background at all to enjoy it’s content.
What makes this show so special is the characters; each character is hilarious in their own right and together, they make for some pretty fantastic moments particularly the back and forth banter between the characters Dinesh and Gilfoyle. Miller is absolutely hysterical as the weed smoking Erlich Bachman and I highly doubt anyone could pull off the dialogue better than him. The writing is also very witty which definitely helps bring the characters alive.
Those who follow the tech world will notice that some of the characters are archetypes of real people i’m thinking of you, Mark Cuban and helps bridge the gap between the fictitious world these characters operate in and the world we see around us everyday. I’m so glad this show has not lost it’s way since the first season, and one could argue that it has gotten better as the years have progressed.
The cast feeds off of each other so well, and coupled with the fantastic, intelligent writing, this may be the best comedy on TV right now my opinion of course. If you don’t know anything about computer science or IT, do not worry; it simply acts as a vehicle for the plot and in no way affects the comedy happening on screen.
If you have not watched “Silicon Valley” yet, definitely give it a shot. It may not be for everyone, but I certainly think that most people will find it hilarious. Was this review helpful? Sign in to vote.
